Ah….the quest for perfection. These days in recorded music, musicians are used to being able to “fix” just about every aspect. If I waited for perfection, I would never post anything. So….
A good friend asked me to sing Ave Maria at her wedding. I was flattered to be asked, and thought it would be so nice to have Kenny accompany me on classical guitar. I had plenty of notice (i.e. time) to learn and memorize the Latin words AND to get a case of the nerves. After all, weddings are captured on video for all time, right?
I wanted to do it in a lower key (D) so it had a pop sensibility. I ended up taking a Skype voice lesson with a great teacher (in the Boston area – Karyn O’Connor) just to see if I could get my voice to bridge the head/chest voice bump. She was very helpful.
The wedding went well, and since we’d taken the time to work it up, I thought we should preserve it by doing a quick live (one-take) version in the studio. Like to hear it?
…you sound scrumptous!! 🙂 Such golden tones you beauty! You seem happy and busy and fulfilled–glad for you. I saw your website design ‘site’; I’ll actually be working with someone this winter to put together a new site for me but if that doesn’t come together well, I’ll contact you–see what your website design schedule is.
I’m working on music I’m really really pleased with–just strings and voice. The website will reflect that simplification. All the best to you ConnieN! JR
